| Kay Nielsen art?|
Does anyone know where the original painting for "Hansel and Gretel" painted by Nielsen for the 1925 edition of fairy tale book of same name might be?
I am interested in using it for the cover of my anthology of Grimm fairy tale poems and hope to find some way of getting the best possible reporduction of it. Otherwise I'll have to scan it from a book and that won't be as good since I'll have to compensate for "moire" pattern from printing.

Claudia, I am not aware of where most of the Nielsen originals are located. If I remember correctly there are a few books on Nielsen that are out of print. Perhaps getting a copy through interlibrary loan would help with listing the homes of the originals. I haven't ever seen the information online.

I assume you have the publisher info on the original 'Hansel and Gretel'? (If not, I will be happy to type it all in). That might be a place to start...

Perhaps David Larkin, who edited the Peacock Press series that did two books on Nielson's art, might know. I don't know where Larkin is these days, but I sometimes see his name on books so he's still involved with the book publishing industry. Perhaps someone here knows him, or an internet search might find him?

Occasionally pieces come up for sale. A few years ago one came up in a Scottish sale (so a dealer friend told me) and he got it for peanuts (about 150 pounds) because he was the only one who knew what it was. I told him he would have had a battle on his hands if I had been there!

None of the "art" books on Nielsen give the paintings provinence (I just checked).
