gypsy fairy tale help|
I need help finding or even identifying a book from my childhood. The book was Turkish but I'm hoping the stories have been translated or more than likely I was reading a translation.
It was a collection of gypsy fairy tales, most having the same young male character. It involved a quest to heaven on a dragon who obeyed him because he had a feather and the dragon, once tickled, would do what he was asked. There were levels of heaven and the boy kept going higher and higher where he met gypsy angels with dirty feet.
Another story was about three sisters -- two ugly ones and of course, one beautiful one. Her sisters push her off a cliff and she dies but from that cliff edge a tree grows and a gypsy makes a violin or a flute out of her and when it is played she tells her woeful story which results in her being brought back to life and marrying the poor gypsy boy.
I'm doing drawings based on myths and fairy tales and would really like to revisit these.

Re: gypsy fairy tale help|
It's been a long time since I read it, but I have a book titled Gypsy Folktales by Diane Tong. You might want to check it out and see if the story you're looking for is included. And if not, there are other good stories in it anyway. I remember I really enjoyed reading this collection.
But there are several stories from around the world, and a small collection of photos in the center.
