White Cats
Having recently acquired a beautiful all-white cat (she came from a rescue home) I am keen to hear of tales and stories involving white cats. I understand that there are many, but apart from Mme d'Aulnoy's La Chatte Blanche (which I love) I can't seem to find any. I'm not focussing on any particular culture, just the motif of the white cat.
In advance, thank you.

Re: White Cats
Was Dick Whittington's (sp?) cat white?

Hum, I don't really know. Apparently, there is no evidence that the rea-life historical Dick Whittington had a cat at all, but I don't think the COLOUR of the cat is mentioned in the stories. Certainly, I've seen Dick Whittington illustrations where the cat is white, but other illustrations where it is a black cat, or another colour.

You might enjoy a book by Patricia Dale-Green entitled The Archetypal Cat-- about half the book focusses on the White Cat in myth and folklore. Published in 1963 by Spring Publications in Dallas. I think it's still in print.

There was quite a thread here not long ago about a story with a princess imprisoned with a (white?) cat (who was her tutor?). Iirc it turned out to be a story by Nesbit or someone like that, but a great many white cats were discussed. :-)
