Katrina Fairy Tale
My name is Katrina and I was recently told by a woman I ran into that there was a fairy tale where the main character's name was Katrina and the character had red hair but that was all of the story she could remember [she was 80 and a lot of fun to talk to]. She told me I should read it, and I must admit she made me curious. But a quick google search has brought about no results for me except a small reference in a Joyce Carol Oates novel [which I am now reading and is absolutely fascinating].

So...does this sound familiar to anyone? Or does anyone have any idea of a better place where I could start a search for it?

Thanks,
Katrina

Katrina ?

Todadevi, hello. I am not familiar with this fairy tale but is it possible the character's name was spelt "Catriona" ? It's pronounced exactly the same and may show up something when you google. Just a thought.

Re: Katrina ?
And even that only brings up the "Catriona" of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel (the sequel to "Kidnapped", as some faux-Scottish members of the board may confirm). :)

...Nothing in the classic stories, though.

Re: Katrina ?
My guess is that it's Russian. There's a version of Baba Yaga that has a Katrina as the heroine.

katrina
There's a demon in Jewish apocryphal lore called 'Karina', who legend has it was encountered by King Solomon in the desert. She ate her children to gain magical powers, and God condemned her to bear only dead children. She kills any man who meets her, while if a woman gazes on her she becomes another Karina. The name's a letter off, though, and I can't imagine that this story is one you'd want to associate with yourself anyways.

Re: Katrina Fairy Tale
Hi There - Not sure if this is what you are looking for ... in Robin McKinley's retelling of Sleeping Beauty one of the main characters is Katriona. The book is called Spindle's End. Katriona is a pretty cool fairy with the ability to speak to and understand animals. It was first published in 2000 and could be the one you heard about. Cheers

Re: Katrina Fairy Tale
Also not what you're looking for, I'm sure, but in Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations, La Catrina is a very popular skeleton "character", sort of a satire of well-dressed bourgeois woman.

Re: Katrina Fairy Tale
Sorry I was looking around and I couldn’t help but reply, my name is Yekaterina, and Katrina is an adaptation of it and in Russia we have a fairy tale of a princess and the pea and her name is Yekaterina ^_^ maybe the woman was thinking of that one?
