Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber
I know i posted a topic on here many weeks ago, but i am still very much confused.
I have to try and answer the following question, which is how and to what purpose does angela carter utilize the fantastic. I can refer to the bloody chamber and also to other stories.
I havent read any of her other stories. Does anyknow know anything about Carter, her works and how she uses 'the fantastic', as my knowledge of her is somewhat limited.
I know that the bloody chamber is a fairytale, so it that what is meant by the fantastic or not?????

Re: Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber
Since I'm not sure if you read the replies in the last thread, my advice is this:
1. Read a/the story (and if you haven't read any of the other stories, you definitely should.)
2. Identify elements of fantasy in the story (monsters, magic, etc).
3. Think about them. Why are they there? What do they bring to the story?
4. Write up your conclusions.
Another way to go about it is to think about what Carter is trying to accomplish in her writing. What themes and issues do her stories discuss (sexuality? Violence? Gender roles? Etc.)? Now think about why she might use monsters/magic/fairytales/etc to explore those issues.
Your instructor is looking for *your* thoughts and conclusions on this topic, not what a bunch of people on a discussion board think about it.
And if you're still confused, discuss it with your teacher. S/he may not have explained it well.
