Fairy Godmothers in Sleeping Beauty
I have to write a research paper on fairy tales for an English class that I am taking. I was wondering if anyone had any interesting perpectives on the significance of the gifts that the fairy godmothers give to the baby Sleeping Beauty. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Re: Fairy Godmothers in Sleeping Beauty
What version of the story are you working with? Favoring the historical-geographic approach myself, it would be neat to look at how the gifts differ in different versions as evidence of what the tellers in different times/places valued most...

I am looking, really, for anything, but if you want more specific, I am focusing on the Perrault, Grimm, and Disney versions. Thank you for your feedback!

Re: Fairy Godmothers in Sleeping Beauty
Gail Carson Levine's perspective is pretty funny in "Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep" -- the fairies try to outdo each other, and the gifts have unintended consequences -- so much so that royals quit inviting fairies to christenings.
In that same story, there is a prince whose fairy gifts make him strong, brave, etc., but incredibly boring.
