Actually, it is clear that it was after Calypso failed him. When she's in the cell, he comes to tax her with his having faithfully done the job for ten years, and her having failed to meet him after it. She doesn't claim that he didn't do what she asked; she says that she's not the consistent type.

The screenwriters for Pirates operate a website for, screenwriters. I haven't done it, but understand you can ask questions and so forth, for those of you who'd like.

I am simply not bright enough to folow that plotline. I marvel at you guy's ability to actually remember what was going on.
I think the story lost me when they returned from the underworld. The title "At world's End" seemed to indicate that the climax would be in the underworld. When they returned from there I expected a short denouement and tying up of loose ends before they sailed off into the sunset.
By the time I realised it was not the case I was already completely lost.
