Jewish Sleeping Beauty
I've been doing some fairytale research and in one of the folktale indexes, Arne-Thomson I believe, I came across a notation that indicated that there is version of sleeping beauty in the Jewish tradition ( I think the number was D1960.4, but I don't have the book in front of me so that could be wrong), but I haven't been able to find out anything about it. If you've heard of this I'd love some more information.
Thanks!
Apologies if this posts twice

Re: Jewish Sleeping Beauty
You'll find a variant in the story of Romana in Howard Schwartz's Miriam's Tambourine. Another version is in Eric Kimmel's picture book Rimonah of the Flashing Sword. Enjoy. It's a great story. I've often told it in storytelling performances for both older children and adults.

Re: Jewish Sleeping Beauty
An additional note: The story of Romana actually has more in common with Snow White than Sleeping Beauty. But the heroine does end up asleep in a glass coffin and is awakened by her true love's kiss.

Re: Jewish Sleeping Beauty
Try reading Briar Rose by Jane Yolen. I can't remember if it says anything about the jewish version of the story but it takes place during the Holocaust and makes parallels with the Briar Rose story and some of the Jewish charectors in the book
I hope that helps
