But what does it mean?
Hello, folks.

It's been a while, ta? Does anyone know what happened to Jenna? She was the only person really here when I came along, but I've not seen her for quite some time. Jenna, if you're lurking, post so I know you're okay.

Now then, Karen, who won't be around for a while as she conquers new lands, gave me this link: www.lallorona.com/

I like the site quite a bit, and I think a lot of you will, too. Flash is required, by the way. But here's the thing. I read about these legends and such, and I like them, but what do they mean? People say that they continue to see her, but what does it mean? Where's the moral? Where's the meaning?

Perhaps this is just me, wanting everything to be nicely structured, like a novel, all laid out waiting for me to pluck away at it, revealing the bones on which the author draped imagery. But legends don't work like that. They're messy. They spring up and are altered all the time. It's irritating. So what do we get out of knowing this, other than the pleasure of knowing?

On another note, since this seems to be kind of an all purpose post, I finally read The Wood Wife. I told you I'd get to it, didn't I? All I'll say is that I won't wait so long to read Terri's next one.

Now then, I'm off. Oh, and by the way, I've not had a cigarette in two days. Someone praise me, damnit. (I'm truly shameless.)

Jeff (no, really, I don't want to smoke. No, really. *grumble*)

Congrats...
I know it's tough, but congrats so far! My nana has tried several times (she's been smoking since she was 12, she's now in her 70s)- she even cheated when she was on the patch a few years ago!

I'll check that site out when I get home tonight and reply about it then!

Have a great day!

Kerrie

Re: But what does it mean?
Hmmm, I looked at the site and it appears to be almost like a religious shrine to a modern day blessed virgin figure (not modern as in a 90's kind of model, but less than 2000 years ago). It's almost like the many legends of Robin Hood, helping the poor when needed, she seems to appear whenever a female is wronged. I don't agree with their labels for her- witch, siren, harlot, and virgin. The last two definitely connect, to me, with the two Marys- the mother of Jesus (virgin) and the Magdalene (harlot). The modern day (?) legends seem a bit far fetched and more like urban legends. Probably not much help, but just some random thoughts.
