Fairy tale writers group?
I've been getting a lot of requests via the Endicott Studio web site from unpublished writers of fairy tale inspired fiction who would like advice, critique, and guidance. This is something I can't do -- I'm already under too many work deadlines as it is. But I know there are fledgeling writers who read this board. Perhaps some of you might be interested in communicating with each other?

I think this is a wonderful idea! It would be a rare opportunity for myself to be read by or to read unpublished work from people who take fairy tales seriously and are all trying to be published. This idea has the potential to become a serious resource/support group. However, would people be wary of posting unpublished work to a mailing list/board where it could be easily stolen? I know that would cross my mind.

copyrights
I think this is a *fabulous* idea, although it would require a measure of trust. Admittedly, I'm not too well-informed on the subject of copyrights, but wouldn't posting a piece on a message board or mailing list qualify as a form of publication? If all previous postings were archived on a separate site, wouldn't everyone's copyrights be proved and protected?

Yes, anything put up on the web is under copyright to the writer. However, this kind of project might work better as a mailing list or listserv in which people can send their work to a specific, critical and helpful group. Otherwise all of the drafts of a piece will be out "there" in the public eye.
I will consider coordinating such an effort, but let me think about the logistics of it for a few days. For now, anyone who is interested in participating in a writers' group, please send me an e-mail to surlalune@aol.com with your name and particular writing interest--such as adult or childrens, etc.
I can also start another board under the SurLaLune name on EZBoard if the majority really does want a message board type setting just for a writing group.
Terri, you may refer those inquiries you receive to me.

Okay, after investigating the features offered by EZBoard, I have set up a private discussion forum that is password protected for writers. If you are interested in joining the board, you need to send a private e-mail to me at surlalune@aol.com and I will send you a password which will give you access to the forum. Hopefully this will provide some of the privacy of a listserv without the inconvenience of dealing with a filled-up mail box.

Thanks for the new board, Heidi!
I was thinking this could be a good place to develop a 'fairy tale writer's FAQ'... Terri, if you know anyone who wouldn't mind answering a lot of the common general questions you receive at the Endicott Studio, I would be happy to make a txt document compiling all the Qs and As. It might be a helpful thing to have on the Endicott website as well.

Fairy Tale writers group
I tried to get to the ez board and it kept telling me I was not a member and had no place to give The Password.
So I guess this computer luddite is shut out.
Wish I were truly a magic maker. . .

Sigh...registration is apparently a requirement
I have been exploring all of the controls and it appears users do have to be EZBoard registered members to access any password protected page.
However, I haven't received a bunch of junk mail from EZBoard and if I remember correctly, you don't have to have anything but a user name and e-mail address to register. Other fields are asked about, but not required. If you are asked for an address, just make one up!
Besides getting access to the Writer's Group Discussion board, being a registered user is helpful because you can go back and edit your own posts. It also keeps people from impersonating you which has not been a problem on the SurLaLune boards, thank goodness.
To register with EZBoard go to "Register My Free Account" above the table of listings on the front page of this site.
The board has one poem and one story up so far and six users. Looks like it may actually be a fun place to be....
There is also the option of making the board publicly accessible which I am quite willing to do. However, I think the privacy and password requirements add a sense of emotional security as well as higher copyright protection for any reluctant writers.

I did become a registered user to use this board. It was quite simple, though I now seem to get a few more junk e-mail messages than usual. I don't know if that is a coincidence or not. Laura Mc
