Off topic, name pronunciation
This one is specifically for Terri, but I thought I might as well post it here in case anyone else has been living in unwitting ignorance.

And the question for Terri is:

How is "Windling" pronounced?

Is it like "wind" as in a "blustery day," or is it like "wind" as in "setting a watch?" Or is it something even more different?

I am not even going to admit which way I have said it for years in case I am wrong!

And now we also know why I have not been hired to write the verbal tests for the SAT if that is the best I can do......

Heidi, who has been writing way too many notes the past few days at SCBWI.

Donna Jo Napoli was great, by the way. And, for all of the aspiring-to-be-published writers on the board, Napoli received rejection slips for 14 years before she was offered a contract.

Jumping in
Since Terri hasn't answered yet--it is wind as in a puff a gust, a blow. NOT a stem winder.

Re: Jumping in
Thanks for answering, Jane! Yes, it's wind as in gusts of air...but not hot air, I hope!

Re: Jumping in
She breathes a sigh of relief and now admits she had it right all along.

After sitting at a conference for four days and hearing so many author names mangled, I just thought I should ask.

I would never consider it hot air, perhaps just the right kind of wind for sustaining a beautiful kite.

And there I will stop before I sound like I am gushing.

For fun
And just for fun , in my book BOOTS AND THE SEVEN LEAGUERS: A Rock and Troll novel, there is a wipsy little fairy with a mop of white -gold hair and big eyes called Windling.

After a friend.
