Fairy Food
Hi all. Please forgive me if I've already asked this, I've been doing so much I forget where I've been. I've had an idea knocking around in my head for a few years on how fun it would be to do a cookbook based on fairy tales and fables. So I'm trying to come up with good stories that could be retold and attached to recipes that children could make with their parents -- sort of putting the book back in cookbook. For instance maybe baked apples and Johnny Appleseed, blueberry pancakes and Paul Bunyon, bread and The Girl Who Trod on a Loaf, gingerbread cookies and the Gingerbread Man. Or maybe something more obtuse like braided sugar cookies and Rapunzel (I guess a salad could be fun here to). Or even original stories. Like I said -- it's just a thought. I was wondering if any of you have comments, etc.

Cheers.

Carrie

I just found your old post:

I'll try to think of some more over the holidays, you know, over all of that food!

Sugarplum dreams,

Kerrie

(What about sugarplums?!)

Storybook cookbook
Kerrie,

This is a good idea, but not original (sorry!). My sister had a storybook cookbook back in the 70's. It was wonderful, including excerpts from the stories. I don't remember what recipes, if any, were based on fairy tales (although I am sure there was at least one), but I do remember how tasty the griddle bread from "Hans and the Silver Skates" was. Unfortunately, my sister's house burned down a few years ago and so did this marvelous little volume (along with the griddle bread recipe). Let me know what you come up with. And good luck.

Wait a year
If you wait about a year and a half, my book MAD TEA PARTIES & OTHER LITERARY FEASTS will be out from Interlink Books!

Sorry to have beaten you to it! But there's always room for more.
