Sf/Fantasy art auction
Just a quick reminded that Pat Wilshire's auction of art donated by illustrators from the sf, fantasy and horror fields is going on now, and will be continuing over the next few weeks. I've donated a number of pieces to this, as have Robert Gould, Brian Froud, and many others. All proceeds are going to Red Cross Disaster Relief. (Pat has raised over $10,000.00 already.)

The art offered changes every week or so, so if you're interested, it's worth checking back periodically. Here's the web site: www.riverstyx.com/tsrart/

Re: Sf/Fantasy art auction
How many items have you donated Terri? Someone outbid me on your signed print, Coyote Madonna, I think it was. I have to admit, I'm hooked now. Need to stay away from ebay for a few days...

Looking forward to future art to bid on.

Kerrie

Oops, to tell you the truth, I can't quite remember. Five, six, seven...something like that.

I got one!
It hasn't arrived yet, but I got the Galahad print that Terri donated -- thanks! I was afraid of spirited last-minute bidding, so I put in my last bid and went off to teach a class, holding my breath . . . and I got it! I can't wait until it arrives.

Do you know how long this will go on?

Re: I got one!
Pat said it would be a couple of months -- possibly longer as he's still getting new donated pieces.

I just wanted to thank you Terri for the donation of your print, The Foxwife. I bid on it and didn't expect to win but did. Thank you for supporting the relief effort in this way.

Re: auctions
Terri,

I also wanted to say thank you - I bid on and won your print,
Coyote Madonna. I was so excited when I finally received it!
I love it! Thank you again. I also have your book, The Wood Wife - I've read it about 3 times and can't wait for the next!

On another note....I always felt I was a fairly well read person, but after reading some of these threads, I realize I've got a lot of catching up to do! (so many books, so little time -: ) sigh) Any suggestions on where to start??

Re: auctions
I too want to thank you Terri- I lost my bid on Coyote Madonna, but won on the Sangreal and Wolf Spirit prints! They are so beautiful! I'll be framing them and surprising my fiance with them as our first art pieces for the winter holidays!

Kerrie

Re: auctions
Kathy, are you looking for recommendations of novels, story collections, or nonfiction?

Kathy, Nancy, and Kerrie: Glad you like the prints!

Re: auctions
Terri,

I don't think I know what I'm looking for...I get plenty of
recommendations on current books from your Endicott site and from what I have read here. I guess I'm looking for
something like a fairy tale "bible" - something that would
be a reference on all the different stories out there....I feel very "ignorant" on the subject of fairy tales, etc and need
help for my education!

Thanks for any / all suggestions!

Kathy

Re: auctions
Well, three books about fairy tales that would be at the top of my list are:
The Oxford Fairy Tale Companion by Jack Zipes
From the Beast to the Blonde: On Fairy Tales and Their Tellers by Marina Warner
Off With Their Heads! by Maria Tartar

Mind you, there are plenty of other good ones, such as Elizabeth Wanning Harries's new book Twice Upon a Time: Women Writers and the History of the Fairy Tale, or Jane Yolen's wonderful essay collection Touch Magic: Fantasy, Faerie and Folklore in the Literature of Childhood. And Gail's reference book New Tales for Old: Folktales as Literary Fictions for Young Adults (edited by Gail de Vos & Anna E. Altmann) is full of information about individual fairy tales and modern retellings.

Re: auctions
Thanks for your input.....I feel like I'm on the edge of
a new world and I can't wait to jump in.....

Sincerely,

Kathy
