Time-Life book series- Worlds of Enchantment
Today, one of my coworkers gave me an incredible gift that I'm thinking is way too valuable. She gave me a set of books from the Time-Life series Worlds of Enchantment. I'm not sure if it's a complete set, but maybe someone here knows. The titles are as follows:

Fairies and Elves
Dragons
Wizards and Witches
Fabled Lands
Giants and Ogres
Seekers and Saviors
Water Spirits
Ghosts
Spells and Bindings

Does anyone know if there are other titles or have opinions on this series? I feel truly honored to have been given these books as they are from 1984/1985.

Forest frosts,

Kerrie

Re: Time-Life book series- Worlds of Enchantment
Hi again Kerrie,

I've never been able to find a complete listing of this series. There ARE more than you have listed there (I've been slowly collecting them second hand since the mid-80's)

The additional ones I have/am looking for:

Legends of Valor
The Lore of Love
The Fall of Camelot
Dwarves
Magical Justice
Tales of Terror
Night Creatures
Water Spirits
Book of Beginnings
Magical Beasts

(I have all but the last 3).

Does anyone else know of any others? You can find them at ABE.com and other places, but I hold out for really inexpensive versions. :-) I find them mixed in quality - both in the writing and illustrating. Some of it is terrific and some so-so. But they are a fun reference to have.

Tara

Re: The Enchanted World series
had 21 books total. Sorry, I can't name them all, but you can generally pick up titles here and there under the out-of-print listing at bn.com.

Enchanted World series
It's a good thing I like research. Can't stand to leave things a mystery. Here are the titles from the 1984-85 Time-Life Books series The Enchanted World:

Magical Justice
Dwarfs
Dragons
Fairies & Elves
Ghosts
Night Creatures
Seekers & Saviors
Legends of Valor
The Secret Arts (who told?!)
Wizards & Witches
Spells & Bindings
Water Spirits
Fabled Lands
Giants & Ogres
Fall of Camelot
Book of Beginnings
Magical Beasts
Lore of Love
Tales of Terror
Gods & Goddesses
Book of Christmas

(No, I don't know why there's a Book of Christmas, but there is.)

Titles
Thanks for the titles! I tried a search earlier today and came up with zip. Guess I didn't find the magic words or something. Wow, quite a series. The Christmas one baffles me too. Hmmmm... Thanks again!

Christmas
I have all of these -- I was on a mission years ago and wrote to Time-Life for the series list. The Christmas Book is actually a pretty interesting one -- you'll like it I think. I ended up writing a poem based on a story in it.

Christmas
Why should a magical Christmas book from Time-Life boggle you? I have written a book on Christmas folk tales, legends, customs, etc., and let me tell you, there's LOTS of faerie/magic/enchantment stuff there.

Re: Christmas
Oh, I understand! It's just that Christmas seems so "Hallmark" these days that I'd have to see/read it to really appreciate it. Kind of like fairy tales being Disney-fied (?) into memorial, holidays just seem too set into a mold, which I am trying very hard to break in my own life, get back to the old meanings and traditions. What's the title of your book? I'd love to read it!

Kerrie

I love this series. Among other things, it was my first introduction to the Plague Maiden. I know I don't have them all, though.

Ohh Ohh
There is an imprint called Senate.
they have a load of cheap Myth, Folk and legends books usually very cheap. I use to get them in New York City at a bookshop called Strands, if you live in NYC you'll know who I am talking about. (or is it whom?) anyhoo. These are loaded, I have noticed that most are re-prints of old public domain texts from early last century. but good never the less.

I hope someone is still reading this.It has been a long time since i got excited about writting in a newsgroup/forum/message board/call it what you will.

BTW, I am now in the UK, thinking of going into Classical Studies.
