Winter Child
Terri,

Just a quick, personal comment here. I think this is appropriate for the the board. My neices loved your books, Midsummer Night's Faery Tale and Winter Child, and your illustrator's beautiful paintings. Thanks for adding a little joy to their Christmas.

Re: Winter Child
Jess, thanks so much -- I'm glad your nieces liked the books!

As for Wendy's art, however, those aren't paintings, but dolls -- three dimensional figures. Wendy makes them out of fimo and cloth, then she and her husband Brian Froud build little sets (in their garden shed), then John Lawrence Jones (a film photographer that Wendy and Brian know from working on their movie Labyrinth) lights and photographs them. The Sneezle doll, for instance, is about 10 inches high.

Illustrations
Ah, that explains the depth and realism. I admit to just skimming the pictures as I was looking more at the books for age appropriateness. The girls, however, were mesmerized by the lovely pictures! They went on and on about them. I only wish I had another copy here to view the pictures again - the girls live half-way across the country from me.

Thanks again!

World of Froud
You can view some images from the books (and Sneezle's tour) on the Frouds' website:

There's also a lovely 9/11 Flash tribute with one of Wendy's dolls and music by Woodland. Enjoy!
