Your favorite bad habits of any fairytale characters ?

What is or are, your 'favorite' disgusting bad habit/s, that
you think you humorously and / or creatively share with any of the more well known, fairytale characters that you greatly admire or dislike ?

Inger
Without question Inger, "The Girl Who Trod on a Loaf," (Andersen) who takes great and nasty pleasure in pulling the wings off of flies. She's not a very nice little girl, and I like her indeed.

(Not advocating violence to animals, of course--my liking is of the fictional gesture, mind you!)

bad habits
Well,
I must think more on this, but Cinderella, Mossycoat etc. have this terrible bad habit of staying silent when they should speak up. I judge them harshly, but unfortunately it's a habit I too often have as well.

Re: bad habits
Trying to rescue troubled men, like Gerda in the The Snow Queen. Very bad habit; it's taken me years to unlearn it.

So embarassing...
Poor Rumpelstilzchen. Poor me. Did you ever have the experience that someone annoyed you so badly that your ill temper got out of hand? Used to happen to me rather frequently. Highly embarassing. During my more lucent moments in this I knew I was Rumpelstilzchen, tearing myself in two crying " 't was the devil who told you!" or whatever came to my mind then. Well, now I'm older and hopefully wiser, the temper tantrums have all but disappeared. Still, if you hit a raw spot...
That is why I always loved the Russian folk tales, where only the polite and well-behaved hero(ine) gets ahead.
;o) Rumpel... no,no, Lotti - of course, Lotti - not that other name!

The Good Girl, Bad Girl
I love this Xhosa tale because the good girl is annoyingly good and the bad girl (even though disaster befalls her) has sort of the right idea--why the hell should I do all these things for every body else just to get what *I* want...what about *my* needs???? While that good girl is cleaning up after eveybody just to get a decent looking husband...whom she'll spend the rest of her life cleaning up after since she's had so much practice.

waiting for a prince
Thank god I'm over it now, but the very worst habit I ever shared with a fairy tale character was waiting for some prince to come and rescue me. Blah.

Re: waiting for a prince
Thanks Erz,

After talking on the phone for an hour with a friend suffering from the "waiting for the prince" mindset, you set me into an almost uncontrollable giggle fit. I needed the laugh. Especially after starting the day sick on the couch watching Gillian Anderson in "House of Mirth." Talk about a bad case of waiting for a prince....if I were to oversimplify the message of the book/movie. Not the most uplifting story when you have a hacking cough!

I could share insatiable curiosity with Psyche and Bluebeard's wife as well as the usual need to please everyone with Beauty.

Sometimes I have envied The Goose Girl's ability to forget simple instructions and just let life happen. It's her fault, but I would consider it a gift sometimes. The close relation between blessings and curses can be saved for another day's discussion.

And when the occasional bout of depression threatens to set in, I can very much resemble that slug-a-bed Sleeping Beauty!

favorite bad girl
Tink remains my all time favorite. Speaking of bad habits -- she doesn't have much tolerance for anything that doesn't work for her. I think sometimes I follow Tink's example and react when I should probably take a time out for introspection. But it so much more satisfying to act on impulse and blow that annoying Wendy-bird right out of the sky -- regardless of the consequences.

wings
I just read the posts after my first one, and realize how very silly I look, naming such a nasty little behavioural bad habit to name, and everyone after me chose a different path--made me laugh at myself!

Donkeyskin...
I think that I share Donkeyskin's fault of making ironic, self-deprecating comments which are invariably misunderstood by those around me.

Where do I start...
Hmmmm, well, my fiance constantly tells me I flit from one emotion/project/thought to the next, so I think Tink is quite appropriate, especially this little tidbit:

Tink was not all bad; or, rather, she was all bad just now, but, on the other hand, sometimes she was all good. Fairies have to be one thing or the other, because being so small they unfortunately have room for one feeling only at a time. They are, however, allowed to change, only it must be a
complete change. At present she was full of jealousy of Wendy. JM Barrie

(I first read that in college and knew it was me!)

I've grown out of the prince waiting- when I stopped I stumbled on him! Quite an interruption in college studies, senior year, no less! Helping where I can, doing what I'm told, etc, etc. But lately, in addition to Tink, I have felt related to Little Red (trusting strangers) and the Goose Girl (allowing someone else to step in and take over my life).

Forest frosts,

Kerrie
