illustrations to share
A while ago I posted asking if anyone might know who had done the illustrations in a book called Little Fairy Tales. I haven't discovered any further information on the illustrations themselves, but I have gotten all of them online. If anyone would care to see these quaint lithographs from 1897 - 1902 they can be found here:

Re: illustrations to share
Erz,

Some of the images appear in Cooper Edens' collection of fairy tale illustrations titled "Three Princesses" which I finally obtained a copy of a few months ago. Edens created several fairy tale volumes that culled illustrations from turn of the century fairy tale collections. You, apparently, learned more than he did since he only credits "The Ideal Fairy Tales" with no date and an anonymous illustrator for the illustrations.

Now the real question is:

How often was anonymous a woman?

Thanks for sharing,

Heidi

I'm sure that 'anonymous' was quite often a woman. In the case of these illustrations, I may never know. I learned that most of McLoughlin's records were destroyed in a flood in the the plant in Massachusettes, and that included records of their 60 or so lithographers. However, now that I have all of the images scanned, I am taking the book to my local antiquarians for a rebinding and they may be able to shed more light on the little volume. I'll post any further info I get to the site.

Glad you liked the illustrations.
