Kelly Link's fairy tale fiction
Salon magazine is running a good article about Kelly Link's new book, Strange Things Happen, as well as a brief interview with Kelly. She's also gotten a good NY Times Book Review recently -- and not stuck off in the sf/fantasy section either. It's so great to see some one of the fantasy field's best young writers getting this kind of attention. If anyone here hasn't read Strange Things Happen, it's highly recommended. It contains some fairy tale related stories, including her Tiptree Award winning tale Travels With the Snow Queen. (Kate, you especially need to read Kelly's work.) Here's the URL for the Salon article: www.salon.com/books/review/2001/11/08/link/index.html
Kelly's another WisCon regular, by the way.

re: Kelly Link's fairy tale fiction
Thanks for that pointer, Terri. I am always grateful and pleased to hear of female writers (forgive the bias) getting attention when deserved, particularly if they use fairy tale related material, or better yet, have written new ones. And Wiscon! I positively can not wait.

Thanks
Thanks for the tip, Terri--I have seen her work here and there, and just wrote to get a review copy of the new collection. Do you know her? I would like to send her my novel--and also to tell her it would have been nice to have her to write for Mirror, Mirror (but no more space, alas).

Re: Thanks
Yes, I know her, and she's a sweetie. I'll pass her e-mail address to you, off-line. She'll love your novel.

Getting it!
I have my copy on hold at Borders -- on my way to pick it up today!

BTW, Terri, I got the Robert Gould print of Galahad that I won at the charity auction -- it's wonderful and is going to look absolutely smashing framed. Thanks for donating it!

Review copies...
Just curious, but how does one achieve status of receiving review copies? When I was a reviewer for Romantic Times, they sent me unedited manuscript most of the time. I have some reviews up on Kamui's website (www.ninemuses.com) and would love to add more. (The next one I'm working on is for Barbie in the Nutcracker- I won't get started...) As soon as I have free-time (huh?!) I'll add more reviews from books I've read since I joined the board (that is, books you've all recommended or written).

review copies
Simply write to publishers and identify yourself as a review editor (or reviewer) for a publication, or set of publications, and request a review copy of a particular title (advance galleys or final version) or simply to be added to their review list. They may or may not honor your request, depending on if they 'recognize' your publication.

p.s. Thanks for the offer to make a postcard or something for Ketzia. I've been meaning to do that. The publisher just did a mailing, but I should do one eventually too. If I need help, I'll certainly enlist yours! Thanks again. I forgot that photograph was on the VLS site--yikes, I just directed you all to my 'distressed authorial stare.'
