Help please!!!!
Hi guys, I'm a drama student in the UK and I'm currently directing a play that I have to adapt. I want to make it into a kind of modern fairy tale but need to know what the essential elements that I'll need are, like characters or scenes. So if anyone can give me any clues as to what I would need to include, please help!!!! Thanks, Bx

You might just want to look at the Top 10 Movies as fairy Tales topic as a shortcut to understanding it. It is more an aesthetic than a specific set of ingredient--a kind of "we know it when we encounter it" feel. Rather than try and define fairy tale in terms of characters and scenes, which I don't think works in any case, try reading some Angela Carter pieces from "The Bloody Chamber", and some Grimm, Anderson, then pick up one of the anthologies that Terri Windling co-edited with Ellen Datlow (Snow White Blood Red, Blck Swan White Raven, etc) to see how some contemporary writers have adapted fairy tale themes and stories. That way at least, you'll have some sense of the organic nature of fairy tale.
