Scholarships and Studentships
Does anyone know if there are any scholarships/ studentships available for a PhD relating to fairy tales?

In general terms, yes...
Dear Sarah:

While I am not aware of any specific fellowships or scholarships for the study of fairy tales, there are in fact a number of more general scholarships that recognize the field of folklore. In America, they include the Javits, the Mellon, the Soros, and the Beinecke, to name only a few. Some make specific provision for fairy tale scholars under the separate category of "Folklore," and others lump the literary study of the subject under "Comparative Literature" or "English," or any other pertinent language. We recently discussed some of the trials and tribulations of pursuing graduate study in the thread headed "Review in the New Yorker," and Kerrie kindly dug up most of the previous discussions of related material and provided links. It is very possible to study fairy tales post bac., and depends largely upon finding a school amenable to the subject, and the right "spin" in your applications. If you have any other specific questions, please, feel free to e-mail me off-board at hp2022@columbia.edu. Good luck!

Best,
Helen

interns
we don't have scholarships or fellowships, but we offer short research assistant internships occasionally through La Sociedad de Gaudalupe for assistance on current projects we are working on.
