Magazine and journal recommendations for submissions?
I can't remember if this has been discussed here before, but does anyone have recommendations for magazines and/or journals that accept unsolicited submissions in fairy tale, folktale, myth, etc related fields, whether fiction or non-fiction, poem or essay, etc? Are there any you recommend to stay away from? Other thoughts?

Magazines
Hi, Kerrie,

The only one I know of is Interzone, a UK sc-fi/fantasy magazine. We had a subscription a few years back and the sci-fi/fantasy could be very broad, so I think they would be amenable to fairy tale/myth etc.

I'm not sure if they have a website, I'll have a look.

For submissions, they really like you to have read at least some issues of the magazine to get a feel for what they are after.

writing guidelines
Hi, Kerrie, here is the link for Interzone's writing guidelines. They accept only hard copy submissions, not email.

Re: writing guidelines
I believe that Marvels and Tales also accepts unsolicited submissions, so long as they deal specifically with fairy tales, and tales alone (no myths, no Arthurian legends, no modern fantasy, etc.). However, within those limitations, they seem fairly open - they print articles about how to teach fairy tales in internet courses and other interesting asides.

Shawna McCarthy, ed.
REALMS OF FANTASY
P.O. Box 527
Rumson, NJ 07760

I thought everybody knew about this one. Shawna publishes stories based on fairytale, myth, and legend quite often, plus articles on folklore. The current issue (April) contains a story of mine based on the Judgment of Paris.

Which story was super sly and wonderful, by the way.
