ABC-CLIO Reprints of classic collections
Heads up on the new series from ABC-CLIO in which they are reprinting classic fairy tale collections. Here is the description from their site at www.abc-clio.com:

Classic Folk and Fairytales
"Everything old is new again. The volumes in this series bring back to life key anthologies of traditional tales from the golden age of folklore discovery. Each volume provides freshly typeset but otherwise unaltered English-language texts with new introductions from top scholars in the field."

The first book was just released and is Italian Popular Tales by Thomas Frederick Crane edited by Jack Zipes. Of course the first volume would be introduced by Jack Zipes!. Geesh, he is a busy man. I wonder what volume will be next.

I still think it would be wonderful if they would print the Cinderella stuff by Cox. That would be REALLY helpful.

ABC-CLIO Series
The ABC-CLIO Series of Classic Folkand Fairy Tales will make availlable a significant number of mostly out-of-print collections. Beyond "Italiain Popular Tales, " edited by Zipes (who conceived and is general editor of the series), the next several collections planned to appear are my dual edition of Joseph Jacobs's "English Fairy Tales" (in it first edition of 1890) and "More English Fairy Tales," William Crooke's "Folktales from Northern India" (ed. Sadhana Naithani), Mary Frere's "Old Deccan Days or Hindoo Fairy Legends" (ed. Karin Narayan), and William Alexander Clouston's "Popular Tales and Fictions" (ed. Christine Goldberg). These are scheduled to appear throughout the spring and summer.

Well, if they don't, Kate and I will be happy to try our best; I think that we'll be putting together a prospectus to send around to publishers once this quarter gets more firmly under way. Now if only they'll accept it ...
