help please
I am an artist/illustrator, wishing to develop a professional career. I am finding it difficult to do the 'leg work' in this respect as I also work full time and have a young family. I am looking for some advise etc. Please view my work at www.philtaylorsfolkloreart.com

Any criticism or advise would be most welcome.
Many thanks in advance
Phil

getting started
Hey Phil,

Great artwork! Seems you have found a good resource. I personally can't add much to your investigation, but there are several illustrators who regularly lurk here. Have you checked out Charles Vess's website? You might find out if he is going to be in your area - I know he gets out and about. Kerrie, who is a regular contributor here, is thinking about starting a fantasy/fairy tales periodical, check with her about her progress - maybe she needs some new illustrators.

My advice is to get out there and meet other illustrators, preferably ones that are published. lol Find out who they know and how they got started. I have been working on a book and have a friend/author of 5 novels reviewing it (different style). He has been a great critical resource as well as a resource for how to get ins in the publishing world (AND how to handle the multitude of rejections). You never know who can help you or where you will meet him/her.

Good luck!

Jess
