Six Swans or Seven Twelve Wild Ravens Brothers etc.
For anyone who might be interested, I have added several out-of-copyright variations of the Six Swans tale to SurLalune in the past few days--seven in all, so far from Italy, Norway, and Germany. Now that I have more room on the new server, I have added them.

There has been a higher interest in this tale since "Daughter of the Forest" and its sequels hit the bookshelves. If you want to read the variants, please

Here is a direct link to the page where they are listed:

Re: Six Swans (or what I am reading now. :-) )
Thanks Heidi,

I will look those up.

I just finished the third book in the 'Daughter of the Forest' trilogy. I enjoyed the first one (the seven swans retelling) the most - but thought they all were good reads. Engrossing enough that I stayed on the sand and read rather than playing in the ocean during the first few days of vacation in N.C. until I finished it up! I hope Juliet M. writes more books.

Though not a fairy tale, I followed up "Child of the Prophesy" with Barbara Kingsolver's latest - "Prodigal Summer". 'Love her - both her fiction and essays. It felt very appropriate - since I was in the hot, humid, summery East (not far from where this book took place), rather than my normally cool and damp Western Washington. :-) It was a very interesting blend of place, season, ecology, and mating ritual (human and animal) entwined into parallel stories.

I finished off the vacation with Margaret Atwood's "The Robber Bride". I haven't quite completed that one yet, but nearly. (What does it say when what you read on vacation figures more prominently than what you DID on vacation...?)

Hope you all are enjoying summer reads as well,

Tara
