I had Mr. Fox in my FAVORITE FOLK TALES AROUND THE WORLD and love to storytell it.
Did a retelling of Fitcher's Bird in NOT ONE DAMSEL IN DISTRESS.
I find it an absolutely fascinating group of stories.

Bluebeard retellings
Jane, my students absolutely love both of those collections. I gave them a list of recommended anthologies of fairy tales, and both, especially _Damsels_, were by far the favorites.

Sideline
Here is an interesting side-light. When I was doing DAMSELS, I wanted to retell "Silver Nose" but the only telling I could find was the Calvino. I asked permission with payment, credit, and they could see the retelling before it was published, and they would not let me. Reason: they said that was his own personal combination of stories.
So I retold Fitcher's Bird--which I found in a variety of translations--instead.

Clarissa Pinkola Estes has a wonderful Bluebeard retelling in Women Who Run with the Wolves as well as a powerful interpretation of the character's in the tale as voices in one woman's psyche. So the brothers who come to the rescue are really called upon by a woman mustering her own counterattack against the inner predator. It might be of help to you.
