Art
Jessica,
Try looking through the older threads in th archive--there have been numerous threads on art illustrations with some excellent references to various artists and sites you might be interested in.

but for starters, you might check out if your library has "Fairies" with art work by Alan Lee and Brian Froud. Very cool indeed. And Brian did a hilarious version called "Squashed Fairies" (is that the right title?).

Re: Art
Lady Cottingley's Fairy Book. Midori's right, that one is *hilarious,* and oddly beautiful, considering the, shall we say, flattened, approach.

Brian's title and Cottingley...
Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book- by Brian Froud and Terry Jones (of Monty Python fame). It is indeed a wonderful book- so wonderful that my father has gotten the idea into his head that that is how he wants to illustrate one of my poems!

(Cottingley was the location of the fairy photographs taken by two girls early last century.)

Sugarplum dreams,

Fairies and suchlike :)
Brian Froud is great for gorgeous art; for a giant compendium of fairy lore try anything by Katharine Briggs, especially An Encyclopedia of Fairies. It's probably out of print but your library might have it. I don't remember whether it has many pictures, but you might get some inspiration from it.

Re: Fairys
Brian's done three that I know of, and you guys left out my favorite, "Good Faeries, Bad Faeries", edited by Terri Windling.

A great overview of many faerie painters can be found in the pages of "The Faeryland Companion", by Beatrice Phillpotts.

Be sure and let us know if you post your work, I'm sure we would love to see what you come up with!
