Re: questions on origans of fairytales
Wow! You can't have a much broader topic than that! Do you have any particular stories that you are trying to find the origin of? You need to be a bit more specific about what you are looking for.

The knowledgable people that frequent this board will be happy to help, I'm sure! You've come to the right place!

Re: questions on origans of fairytales
Sara,
One of my favorite source books is "When Dreams Came True" by Jack Zipes, which covers the French wellspring of many fairy tales that we all know today, as well as the appearance of the Arabian Nights in western literature, and the evolution of fairy tales after that. Of course if it's origins beyond the scope of that book, you have to go way back. Cinderella alone has Chinese and Egyptian antecedents going back at least another thousand years.

research
I have narrowed it down to norwegen fairytales or forlk tales for my english class. But for my western civ. it can only be the history of fairytales writen after 1500's.

thank you for your help!

Confused
Now I am confused--do you mean fairy tales WRITTEN (as in authored) or WRITTEN DOWN (as in collected?)

written after 1500
i ment written as in authored after 1500. but that is only for the western civ class. the english class can be any time. i will probable go with french fairy tales for the western civ class since they are the ones i have found to be written after 1500.

Re: written after 1500
If you would like to read a great fairytale written in the Late 1800's, you should read Prince Prigio by Andrew Lang. You can read it at: www.belinus.co.uk/fairyta...Prigio.htm

There are connections to many other fairy tales on that sight as well that may be able to help you with your assignment.
hope this helps!

spelling
This has been bothering me for some time, and I am no prize when it comes to spelling myself, but Heidi--could you change the header on this topic so that Origins is correctly spelled?
