Trying to find this one
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a story about a bean and a straw and a piece of coal who went traveling together when the bean wanted to escape from the kitchen where he was about to be cooked in a soup. What is the origin of this story? How can I find the complete version? Is it an American folk tale or from another country? Any info would be helpful. Thank you very much.

Re: Trying to find this one
Tom Robbins "Skinny Legs and All" comes to mind, I wonder if he read the tale you are looking for? Think it was Brothers Grimm....

Here are a couple of links to the story, just found them!

www.ucs.mun.ca/~wbarker/f...m/018.html

I'm not sure what the moral is, but it sure is handy to have a tailor around when you need one.

Re: Trying to find this one
Thank you so much! That was great and my friend is thrilled. He had heard this story from a favorite aunt who is long-deceased. He was retelling the story to his little daughter and it is her favoritte story of all the ones he tells. The thing is: she has Downs Syndrome and when she shows special interest in ANYTHING it's a great and remarkable occurence in their world. So, my friend is an artist and he intends to illustrate and tell the story and get it published for his daughter Emma, but he needed to know from where it came so he could check on permission, copyrights, etc. Thank you again for your prompt response.

My pleasure Lynda!

Keep us posted on the progress of the project if you could, and tell me when I can pick up a copy to support your friend's efforts.
