Would LOVE some help
Hey everyone
i am doing a small thesis on the nature of the social influence of fairy tales and how they imprint on young children, i will be taking two examples of fairy tales and showing how they have changed over time to suit the contexts values
anyone got any good sites for me?
please help

That seems to be a bit of a contradiction in terms. :-) How long is your paper to be? Also, what kind of paper is it: high school, undergrad, graduate?

This is a LARGE topic, with vast amounts of scholarship. Aside from picking 2 tales, is there any other way you are narrowing it down: by culture, by period, etc.?

This is far more broad than you'll be able to cover, I suspect.
If you can tell us which tales you're working with, and which versions, then we can be more help.

A great source that introduced me to the evolution and social implications of fairy tales is "The Trials and Tribulations of Little Red Riding Hood" by Jack Zipes.
This is a good place to start if you are having trouble narrowing your topic down...like Laura said, this is a HUGE topic.

I definitely agree with Laura and Allyson about the scope of your project ... that said, you might also enjoy Maria Tatar's _Off With Their Heads_ and _The Hard Facts of the Grimma' Fairy Tales_ ... she writes a good deal on topics related to your thesis.

If you are looking for an introduction
I realize you may be farther into this, but if you haven't already, pick up a copy of Jane Yolen's Touch Magic. She has a chapter which discusses this very topic and it is full of footnotes. Sounds interesting. Good luck.

It may not be logistically possible for you, but if you can get to the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts in Ft. Lauderdale next month, the focus of the conference is specifically on fairy tales and childen. I've no doubt some of the papers delivered there would provide you with lots of material, and you'd been immersed in a teeming horde of academics to talk with about your subject.

Good on Grimm & social issues
I just used Ruth Bottigheimer's book, Grimms' Bad Girls and Bold Boys: The Moral and Social Vision of the Tales (1987), to help write an introduction to my anthology... It's full of information & analysis & sources.
