Help!
Hi people,
I'm currently researching fairy tales as part of my English A Level, and am looking to write a genre transformation of Hansel and Gretal.
I have no idea where I could find previous examples of such things and was hoping that someone may be able to point me in the right direction.
If anyone has any informatio could they post it for me.
Thank You.

I am not certain what you mean by a "genre transformation"? Can you tell me what this is and then maybe I can be of help. And how long a piece are you writing? And how soon do you need it done?

Re: Help!
Have you checked out the opera by Engelbert Humperdinck (the composer, not the popular singer from the '60s and '70s)?

Well ...
Okay, first - and, I realize that I will be displaying my ignorance here - I just have to say that the new knowledge of not one, but two individuals in this world bearing the euphonious name of Englebert Humperdinck gladdens my heart. Second, if by genre transformation you mean an updated or translated version of the story which will shed new light on its' original meaning (say, transforming an 18th century folk-tale into a 21st century romance, or what have you, by observing the conventions of the new genre in favor of the old) then I would highly recommend the Fairy Tale series, edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, and, depending on the thrust of your transformation, perhaps the _Politically Correct Fairy Tales_ (which, as I recall, pose the witch as a diet-conscious guru living in the woods, only to be suddenly attacked by greedy capitolist children). Good luck!

not sure, but
not sure, but, I think there are "versions" of Hansel and Gretl on the surlalane site here. I thinking you ought to just lock down the ports and fly "balls out" and just write it using all your wildness possible.

I am not sure what genre transformation means, but does it mean something like morphing into another genre, so you have hansel and grethel as politicos? or as accoytes of a master, or two lovelorn teenagers, or double rows of teeth shark-people,or, or?
all best
cpe
