Tattercoats and Freud
I've just read Tattercoats and now I have to apply Freud's model of the mind to Tattercoats..
The id, the ego and the super ego..
I really need a bit of help from you guys!

Thank you

Re: Tattercoats and Freud
Dear Louise:

You might want to take a look at Bruno Bettelheim's _The Uses of Enchantment_. Bettelheim approached the tales from a Freudian perspective, and though he didn't deal with "Tattercoats" specifically, I believe that he refers to variants of the tale of the "unnatural father" in his section on "Cinderella." Alan Dundes has a Cinderella casebook out which deals with some of the same issues. Also, in a recent issue of Marvels & Tales, Amelia A. Rutledge had an interesting article concerning Robin McKinley's _Deerskin_ which might prove informative. I don't really agree with their interpretations myself, but they might make for a good starting-off point ... good luck!

Best,
Helen

Freud
Those are very good suggestions from Helen.

Can you say more about "id, ego, and superego," how you understand them, and how the assignment was framed for you?
