Re: review books
I'm a guest at Comic Con; I'll have a look out for the prints. It's going to be an interesting event, I think. I've retained the love of comics I had as a child, but I can't claim to be knowledgeable about the genre particularly, or to have much to do with it nowadays, beyond purchasing the occasional graphic novel. I'm on a panel with Wil Wheaton (the actor who played Wesley Crusher in Star Trek: TNG), and Neil Gaiman has offered to interview me for my artist's spotlight. I have no idea what he and I are going to talk about, but I'm pretty certain that his presence will fill up the room more reliably than mine could! Maybe *I* should interview *him!*

Heir Apparent
Just started Vivian Vande Velde's latest - Heir Apparent - and am liking it enough to mention it here. Sort of a blend of fairy tale/scifi/video game. Fast paced with a strong voice.

*another one wiping a brow*
Well I don't really know where to start! I found this group when I went searching for Celtic Folklore and Fairy Stories. I have it in my mind to finally do what I've wanted to do since I was a child and build a collection of stories from my home town (Inverness) and surrounding area. This thread on it's own has provided me with enough reading material to keep me occupied for a long time to come *laughing*. I adore reading, particulary anything mystical.

I particularly love, and am fairly knowledgable on (but in no way an expert) the Aurthurian legend and satisfy the aspiring writer in me by roleplaying a character from the time with a group who share my interest.

I just wanted to say "hello" and introduce myself for now, I look forward to reading at least some of the books mentioned on this thread and others and perhaps sharing ideas and thoughts with others.

My apologies if I've put this post in the wrong place, I was a bit overawed by what I found here. Will need to come back when it's not so late (where I am) and my mind is a tad fresher.

Regards
Caillean

Re: Upcoming Publications Part 2
hello everyone, I recenty came out with a new translation of Aesop's fables - it actually was available in England last year, but just now became available in the U.S.

there's a website with lots and lots of Aesop that goes with the book - 1400 English fables and counting...!

aesopica.net

I've also put up all 12 of the Andrew Lang fairy books based on the texts scattered around at Project Gutenberg, etc. - I think it's the only place with all 12 fairy books (although I could be wrong about that!)

www.mythfolklore.net/andrewlang/

thanks to the folks at SurLaLune for this great website; I teach Mythology & Folklore online and this is one of the most valuable references for my students to come to!

Re: Upcoming Publications Part 2
Hello Everyone,

I take a slightly different approach to publication from most of you. I handbind my original fairy tales in small (4 1/2" x 5 1/2") editions which are available through my website wrightales.com

If you want to read one of the stories, but don't want to buy the books let me know and I will email you the text.

Thanks,
Lisa

The Endicott Studio
Just a quick note to mention that the Summer edition of Endicott Studio's Journal of Mythic Arts is up on line now, www.endicott-studio.com. This is our on-line journal for general readers interested in myth, folklore, and contemporary mythic arts (including fantasy fiction), rather than for hardcore fairy tale scholarship -- (Marvels and Tales is the best place to go for that) -- but I hope folks will find it enjoyable nonetheless.

Terri's (with Ellen Datlow) Swan Sister is now shipping from Amazon. Here's the link:

And then there's The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror: Sixteenth Annual Collection:

Actually, I have many new titles listed on the front page of SurLaLune which might interest the board. Have a look at the SurLaLune main page:

Take Joy
I just got hold of Jane Yolen's Take Joy: A Book for Writers. It's wonderful, and inspiring. I highly recommend it to all the writers here.

Jane, you're amazing, as always.

Re: Take Joy
TOUCH MAGIC is still one of my absolute favorite books on writing. Naturally I'm going to grab this one too. Thanks for the heads up, Teri.
