congrats on 5 years, and opinions of the little mermaid....
Congratulations on your five year birthday/anniversary, whatever you want to call it. It' great that theres a place for people to communicate about their opinions and discuss the subject of fairy tales, which is possibly my favorite thing in the world. Anyways, about the little mermaid. I have many adaptations of the little mermaid in both written and filmed versions. One of the best little mermaid books that I have seen is of Charles Santore's illustrated version of the H.C Andersen tale. The paintings are very expressive and powerful, if somewhat melancholy(which the story is anyways) Some films that I have are the Little mermaid from the RUSICO collection. This movie is great in that the look of the underwater life and the mermaids are convincing, unlike some of the other live action filmed versions. While remaining somewhat true to the plot there is a sort of twist. The sea witch isn't really a SEA witch which kind of disappointed me. I really liked the music though. I also enjoyed the fareie tale theatre version of the story if being somewhat cheesy, it is still a great movie in the collection. The special effects aren't really special but they get the story across anyways. I would enjoy everyone's views on their favorite adaptations of this story if they want to share.
