Neverwhere
Hello all. I was walking through Borders and saw Neil Gaiman's book Neverwhere, which I promptly purchased. The cashier then recommended the BBC miniseries on DVD, which I also purchased. Has anyone here seen/read this? Or has there been a previous discussion on the book that I missed?

Neverwhere
Carrie,
I've read it, and have the DVDs lined up to watch sometime over Christmas break. (From what I've heard, his commentaries are the best part of the DVDs, but I'm looking forward to seeing it.) I really enjoyed the book. Lots of complex, interesting characters and intriguing plot.

I pretty much enjoy anything Neil Gaiman has written. Read "American Gods" this summer and just got "Wolves in the Walls" (a children's book). He also has a very enjoyable blog site: www.neilgaiman.com/journal/journal.asp which he writes in nearly every day. A lot of it is related to his touring, signing and publication schedules, but he has such a wry sense of humor it is fun to read him writing on nearly any subject.

Ok, enough Gaiman-gushing for now. Enjoy the book.

Re: Neverwhere
Dear Carrie:

_Neverwhere_ has come up in a few tangential discussions on fairy-tale topics (the one that springs instantly to mind concerned the Goblin Market vs. the dynamics of the Floating Market) but I don't believe that it's ever been the topic of a seperate thread. It's a work that I, for one, would love to discuss ... one thing that I love about Gaiman is that he's been so thoroughly immersed in folkloric tradition that his own unique creativity is almost always inevitably refracted through it in his work. Tracing the connections is fun ... So, Floating Market, antecedents for portal-dwellers, the Underground as Underworld?

Best,
Helen

P.S. - I'm afraid that I'm not a fan of the adaptation (nor is he, for that matter, from what I've read) but I'm looking forward to the remake tremendously!
