 Ivan Krylov
Today is the birthday of Ivan Krylov (1769-1844) Russian writer of fables. According to the following website his tales are still used for the education of Russian children.

Has anyone heard of this man? I have never run across his writing before.

He is usually spoken of as part of the triumverate with Aesop and LaFontaine.
