Question For Jane Yolen, apology to Terry
This happened a while a go but I finally found it!
Okay I read too much and I have a bad memory. Attributing druidic rose symbolism to one of Terry's essays at the Endicott studio was a mistake. Its actually in Jane's book on children and fairy tales. Anyway Jane I was wondering where you got your information on that, I've been looking every where for more on what roses symbolize to the druids. Help me if you can.
Thanks,
Liz

roses and Druids
Er--I haven't a clue. Can you be more specific? Is it in Touch magic?

yes
yes precisely. But you know, I'm just looking for general info so anything you have would be excellent. It just piqued my interest.

???
Where in TM is it? I don't want to have to read through all the essays to find it. I actually have no memory of saying any such thing but it was--as I said--written a number of years ago.

Found it
Have had a lovely little blizzard here in Maryland, but it gave me time out of school to look for the essay. The obscure little quote about druidic folklore and briars was in The Lively Fossil. In my book it was about the top of the third page, so not very far in.

Thank you so much for your help,
Liz

question
I looked at the essay--it was written over 20 years ago so I have NOT a clue where I found that information) but as I read it, it is about the briar (meaning thorn) and not the rose.

Jane

PS Perhaps the reference in the back to the Opies book is where I found that information. Other than that, I can't help.
