To Greg- Recasting Fairy Tales: Boskone panel...
Hi Greg- I was recently looking through the Boskone schedule (to see if I can afford to head into the city for the weekend) and saw one of your panel descriptions:

Friday 10:00pm Dalton: Recasting Fairy Tales
Gregory Frost

Just wondering if it's a solo discussion, if there's an existing description NESFA just hasn't posted yet, etc.

I hope I can head in and meet you, as well as catch up with the rest of you who are on panels.

Question for past presenters at Boskone, or anyone who knows- BTW, what is a "literary beer"?

Sugarplum dreams,

Kerrie

Boskone panel
Kerrie,
They seem to think I'm going to sit for half an hour and discuss the idea of recasting fairy tales all by myself. Personally, I think there are people on hand--Judith Berman for one--who ought to be involved in this. It should be a large discussion because it's a large topic. But please come and introduce yourself and help expand the "panel".

As I haven't been to a Boskone in many years, I don' t know what a literary beer is--perhaps the alcoholic's equivalent of a kaffeeklatch?

Best,
Greg

Re: Boskone panel
Hi Greg,

Thanks for the invite. Looks like they updated the description:

Friday 10:00pm Dalton: Recasting Fairy Tales
What are the rewards.....and the pitfalls?

Gregory Frost

Based on their schedule, I'm not sure if Judith will be there Friday night- the first panel I see her listed on is Saturday morning at 10AM. Ellen also isn't listed until Saturday. I did notice Delia's name listed for a Friday panel (Making Fantasy Real). I'll have to email Theodora Goss to see if she's attending, since she's local and wrote "The Rose in Twelve Petals".

I'm currently waiting to hear if I can attend as "Press" for 201mass.com- $48 is a lot for me right now, being unemployed. If not, I may head in Thursday to help with set-up, then with break-down Monday. I hate money.

Attendance
Kerrie,
Yes, let Theodora know about this. She should be on hand. I'll email Delia and Judith about it. It's really too large a topic (in my opinion anyway) for one person's opinion to reign.

Judith...
Judith, I think I just saw a post from you- will you be at Boskone Friday night?

Boskone
I'm planning on it, though we're driving up from Philly Friday, and the presence of a 3-year-old in a car can turn a 6-hour road trip into 10... never mind the traffic.

I AM doing four panels on Saturday, plus a reading at 3 p.m. Somehow the majority of my panels this time are solid sf, though I'll be reading something NOT.

Re: Boskone
Ahhh, aren't children a joy?! I look forward to have 1-2 of them myself someday.

Hopefully we'll see you there Friday then! I just found out I can attend as a Press Representative for 201mass.com (I write reviews and add links to their site from time to time)- yippeeee! Now, trying to figure what to attend is going to be a real challenge- so many wonderful panel descriptions!

I haven't heard from Theodora yet, but her husband said he'd pass the message on to her (not sure if I have the right email for her).

And I just noticed Ruth Sanderson's art will be in the gallery, though I'm not sure if that means she's attending or not. Ruth, are you still with us?

Update- Theodora Goss...
I just heard from Dora that she won't be able to make it Friday night, though she will be there during part of the day Saturday. She does hope that she can catch up and say hi.

Have you heard from anyone else?

Re: Update
Kerrie,
I've heard back from Delia and from Judith Berman, both of whom will try to be there but aren't sure. If not, people will be forced to listen to me for 30 minutes (a threat that should have them combing the halls for other panelists).

Re: Update
Well, I'll prepare notes and questions, if you want audience participation to keep things going. Do you think, if it came down to it, a more informal round table with the audience would work?

Greg and Judith....
I hope you both made it home safely Sunday! We got buried up here!

For those who couldn't make it, Boskone 40 was a blast! Rather than rewriting my notes, here's a link to a report I wrote:

Where Do I Begin? Or Three Days at Boskone 40 Are Not Enough

I have 2 more articles to come- one is based on an interview with Scott Green, President of the SF Poetry Association, and the other about the relationship between SF and FT. Will post more on that in a minute.

Sugarplum dreams,

Kerrie
