The Saga of Erik the Viking
Hi all,

I just received "The Saga of Erik the Viking" by Terry Jones. Does anyone know it? Is it worth reading? Is it a retelling or original? Also, does anyone know anything about Michael Foreman, the illustrator? Some of his illustrations I like very much.

I've seen the film, which is good in parts.

Folk tales really fall into three catagories: the ones that get told over and over, and change a bit here and there along the way; ones set down by a particular teller with such authhority that it becomes the canonical tale (Grimms, Perrault, Disney, Andersen); and the art or original tale.

Erik the Viking is a children's book originating with the author, with elements of the art tale. Michael Foreman is one of Britain's foremost children's book illustrators.
