Edinburgh International Book Festival 9-25 Aug 2003
If you are planning a trip this summer, can I recommend to you to come to Edinburgh for the Edinburgh International Book Festival which will be from 9-25 Aug this year. It's an event that just gets better and better every year! Usually there's at least one thunder storm and as the event takes place in a variety of old world tents and pavillions in Charlotte Square Gardens, the smell of crushed grass, good coffee and tobacco all lend a certain atmosphere. And of course everybody remotely interesting will be there at some time... This year just some of the writers who will be appearing are Ben Okri, Candace Bushnell, Ian Rankin, Doris Lessing, Paulo Coelho, Clive James, Tariq Ali, Kate Atkinson and William Dalrymple.

It would be brilliant to meet some of you people in person after all the interesting dicussions here! So, if you come I'll be sitting under the trees with a glass of Merlot in my hand..... Cheers!

Marina Warner
For anyone interested, I see Marina Warner is speaking on Voodoo, the Virgin Mary, myth and magic on 23Aug. Should be interesting!

Shameless Plug!
Hope this isn't a serious breach of etiquette, but, if you're visiting Edinburgh for the Book Festival (or any other reason!), come and visit my bookshop!

It's called Transreal Fiction and is at 7 Cowgatehead, which is just off the Grassmarket ('behind' the castle, looking from Princes Street).

I specialise in science fiction & fantasy books, including art books, but no comics... cuddly Wooly Mammoths, though!

Re: bookstore
Cool! I was planning on continuing my studies in St. Andrews! You know professor Hugh Kennedy (Mediavel History)?
I've ended up opting for SOAS in London, but I intend on making my way to Edinburgh for a visit!! Will definitely try to be there for the book festival!

How long has Transreal been in Edinburgh

Just over 6 years; I ran away from running the book dept. in the basement of a well-known comic shop almost 7 years ago... and before that I ran the 'book' shop of the Science Fiction Bookshop when it had 2 shops facing each other on a side street.

You're very welcome to drop by - it's a long time since I've sold you anything!

And the cuddly mammoths are, indeed, excellent!
