adaptation theories?
Hi! I am a graduate student in comparative literature and I have a query regarding the re-adaptation or retelling of narratives. I was wondering whether there are any current theories that discuss and evaluate various narrative methods used in the process of rewriting or revising stories?
Thank you!

Re: adaptation theories?
You might find these two books useful:

John Stephens and Robyn McCallum, Retelling Stories, Framing Culture (Garland, 1998).

Stephon Benson, Cycles of Influence: Fiction, Folktale, Theory (Wayne State University Press, 2003). Here's the link to Wayne State U Press.

See also what Jack Zipes has to say about "duplication" and "revision" in the introduction to Fairy Tale as Myth/Myth as Fairy Tale (University Press of Kentucky, 1994).
