New editions of old books...
All,
In the latest issue of BOOK magazine I came across an ad from the Folio Society for facsimile editions of four collections of fairy tales: HANS ANDERSON FAIRY TALES illo by W. Heath Robinson, GRIMM'S FAIRY TALES illo by Arthur Rackham, THE FABELS OF AESOP illo by Edward Detmold and PERRAULT'S FAIRY TALES illo by Edmond Dulac. These editions have all the original illustrations plus the gorgeous cover stampings for just $14.95. You also receive a two volume set of THE GREEK MYTHS (retold by Robert Graves) along with this introductory offer. Sounds like a good deal to me and I thought many of you might want to know about it.

There doesn't seem to be a website listed so here is their 800 ph.#:

Best,
Charles

The Folio fairy tale books are gorgeous. I was less impressed with the Greek myths. The production values are very high, but I was not as excited about the illustrations in them. I was also not terribly excited about the other books they offer (which you need to buy more of to qualify for the initial introductory good prices). Again, good choices with good production values - but no illustrators that I was terribly drawn to - especially for the more elevated prices they wanted for them. The fairy tale books are the best thing they offer IMO.

There are others...
I just did a very quick search of the Folio Society's website and found, among their current offerings, a gorgeous new edition of Andrew Lang's THE BLUE FAIRY BOOK with illustrations by contemporary illustrator and book artist Charles Van Sandwyck which made me VERY excited and also a facsimile edition of EAST OF THE SUN, WEST OF THE MOON with classic illustrations by Kay Nielsen. Yum!!! Just on the strength of those two offerings I'm going to plunge on in...

Best,
Charles
