searching for story
Hello all --

This request is a little odd, but you all have been so knowledgeable about so many things I think it is worth a try.

I am trying to find the publication place of a story that came out in the 1970's. It may have been in a periodical like Omni, I can't remember. The title is "The Toilet Papers", and it is a very funny satirical piece told from the point of view of a toddler going through potty training, but with a very adult voice. The central humor turns round his budding artistic frustration that his mom doesn't have the aesthetic sensitivity to appreciate his wall murals in this exciting (to him) new medium, and the fact that she keeps destroying them by washing them off means to him that she is a severe critic and wants him to try harder and create even grander works.

The point is, I am teaching an intro to psych course and in a few weeks we are going to swing into Freudian theory. I would just like a little something to get these very bright honors undergrads through the shock of learning about the anal stage without turning them off parenting forever. (Only kidding -- but the story is very funny and at the same time covers the issues quite cogently in its own way. I have used the darling little Japanese book "Everybody Poops" for this purpose before, but I'd like a little change myself -- no pun intended.)

Re: searching for story
A quick Google search revealed these:

thanks!
Yes, I think that must be it. What is cracking me up right now is my self-perception in long-term memory: I obviously remember myself as an Omni reader rather than a reader of National Lampoon, where it appeared. (Those were the days. . . )

Thanks so much! I should be able to get hold of it.

Just a little aside/joke. ;)

My godson's parents have a 'code-word' for the 'brown period'/potty training period. They call it:

"Code Brown"

Now back to your regular programming...
