Heads up to interested parties:

The Wizard of Earthsea movie will be airing on SciFi channel in two parts on Monday and Tuesday, December 13 & 14. It premieres and then repeats several times each night. There has been no announcement of a DVD coming soon, so catch it live if you are interested.

And for those like myself who will aways prefer the books, here they are:

The Tombs of Atuan: The Earthsea Cycle Book 2 by Ursula K. Le Guin

The Farthest Shore: The Earthsea Cycle Book 3 by Ursula K. Le Guin

Tehanu: The Earthsea Cycle Book 4 by Ursula K. Le Guin

The Other Wind: The Earthsea Cycle Book 5 by Ursula K. Le Guin

A beautiful trilogy
The Earthsea trilogy is very close to my heart as it pretty well started me off on my path to eventually becoming a book Illustrator. When I was 13, in the mid 1970s, I read the Earthsea books over and over, and then drew 100s of pencil drawings that illustrated the story. At first, I redrew the pictures on the covers of the books, then I took the tiny chapter heading drawings from the books, and turned them into huge, detailed drawings, and gouache paintings. That in turn led to illustrating many other scenes which were not illustrated in the books, and then inventing more scenes which were not even in the books. It was my first experience of being inspired to illustrate a text in such detail.

I doubt we'll get to see the tv shows here in Australia, but hopefully I'll get to see them on DVD soon. :D

I've heard that Tenar's character has been changed considerably, which is a shame.
