A new, dark Hansel and Gretel film!
I'm sure that by now you all know that I am planning to make musical versions of the classic fairy tales. This one is Hansel and Gretel.

I know that I want to keep the original darkness of the tale. I might even add in the part that was cut from the Grimm story, about the mother taking the kids in the forest, not stepmother.

I do want to keep in the witches' gingerbread house. It's an element that people instantly associate with the story, so there is no point in changing it.

I am adding a subplot about all the children dissapearing and the town idiot is blamed for it.

There will also be an extra character named Toby, who is also taken captive by the witch and gives Hansel the idea for the chicken bone finger trick.

The film will be creepy, scary, and a little bit violent. There will be a medium amount of blood.

I want the witch to be bright and cheerful and then she takes off her face to reveal a hidious and scary witch. I want the witch to look a lot like the Grand High Witch in the film THE WITCHES.

In the versions I know, it's the father, at the (step)mother's behest, who abandons the kids in the woods. For some reason he escapes blame in the end of the tale, which annoys me. I know for a fact that my stepfather would never abandon my sister and me to starve in the woods, no matter who told him to.

I know what you're talking about!
I still do not know what I will do about the children returning to a father who abandoned them. A lot of versions have the mother leaving the kids in the woods without the father around(he's on a trip to town or something).

I might just end the film with the spirits of the past victims of the witch going to heaven as Hansel and Gretel walk away in the forest.
