Help finding versions of the Armless (or Handless) Maiden
I am new to this site and uncertain how to find actual telling of the tale. I had my own dream of an armless maiden who was given a new arm and now I'm interested in researching the tale more. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Handless Maiden
Clarissa Pinkola Estes has a chapter about the archetypal meanings of the handless maiden story in her book Women Who Run With The Wolves. HIGHLY recommended!

Does anyone know of any modern fictional treatments of this story? Thanks.

try Calvino's ITALIAN FOLKTALES
There's at least one good version in Calvino's ITALIAN FOLKTALES, iirc.

Also there's a wonderful Andrew Lang site by Laura Gibbs, where you can search the text of all the stories! Look for 'pears'.

silver Hands
You could try Drusilla Modjeska's 'The Orchard', which combines literary fairy tale with biography and history to form a very interesting and engaging tale. It's quite an intriguing and intelligent book that deals with the life of a contemporary artist, the tale of the handless maiden/silver hands and the life of Artmeisia Gentileschi.

Recommendations ...
I second all of the previous recommendations enthusiastically: I'd also say that, in terms of criticism, you might want to check out Marina Warner's _From the Beast to the Blonde_ and Maria Tatar's _Off With Their Heads_. For modern fictional treatments, look for Jane Yolen's "Allerleirauh" (_Sister Emily's Lightship_) and Marina Warner's "Ballerina: The Belled Girl Sends a Tape to an Impresario" (_Angela Carter and the Fairy Tale_). Good luck!
