a Fitcher's Bird question
Hello, would anyone be able to tell me if they have any references for the name Fitcher's? or "Fitcher's Vogel?" In years past on this board, someone had traced its genesis, or had information about the name. I need to retrace that path. Any advice gratefully received.

Also, I have Gary Hartman's "Loose Leaf Fairy Tales" translation of the tale, and Stein and Corbett 's book "Psyche's Stories" that contains Katherine Asper's treatment of the tale. Are there any other commentaries on the classic version of the tale that anyone could mention? Any information you have is truly welcome.

I am fascinated by and want to understand more about various interpretations, which (so far) extend from the Jungian to a metaphor for the existential crises faced in life. There must be other ways to view the story because unlike the cousin tales, the heroine does not have outside help. I wish Maria Tatar had written it, but if she has I haven't located it yet (just beginning). Her "The Annotated Class Fairy Tales" for the commentary on Bluebeard, one of the cousin tales is very helpful. The pictures are wonderfully helpful. I read Greg Frost's interview on how extensively he prepared to write his book, but there emphasis was on reading the cousin tales, but not specific Fitcher's commentary or history.

Many thanks to you who can comment, Carol
