Seventh daughter's on Fairy Tales
I'm looking for more information on how the myth or the idea of seventh daughter's have been used in Fairy Tales. I have already collected some information but I will be needing a bit more. If anyone can recomend me some books I will appreciate that too.

Re: Seventh daughter's on Fairy Tales
This is interesting. I can't speak to fairy tales; the only reference to seventh daughters I'm familiar with is that cunning men (folk healers) were sometimes said to be the seventh sons of seventh daughters. I don't know of anything that specifically addresses the seventh daughter herself.

Good luck with your research.

Re: Seventh daughter's on Fairy Tales
This subject I have often found to be a bit of a muddle. Seemingly a combination of historical fact and eastern religion, and yet may just be another example of our one-time collective obsession with the number seven?

"The Dark is Rising" casts a 7-of-7 child as a magical saviour.

On-line references that directly deal with the subject seem to be sparse:

www.leicesterandleicestershire.com/Amelia_Woodcock.htm a historical case that may be the root of the healing claims?

www.thebookofdays.com/months/jan/26.htm (you’ll have to scroll down about half-way.)

www.novareinna.com/festive/valmagpie.html gives it an Eastern twist, and quite possibly the source of the phrase.

Around the subject:

www.sacred-texts.com/wmn/fow/fow28.htm gives a run down of all sorts of “daughter” roles.

www.kennykingston.com/default.asp please do not give him any money, even if he does claim to be the son of a seventh daughter of a seventh daughter. Perhaps the boast to be Marilyn Monroe’s former psychic is not such a good selling point, considering her demise…

www.paralumun.com/witchseven.htm commits the “seven-as-universal” crime to which Newton even subscribed. There are, of course, only six visible colours in a rainbow. Newton split one into indigo and violet so that there might be seven, such was his belief that seven was so important: www.colorsystem.com/projekte/engl/08newe.htm

Hopefully someone here has done a bit more research.
