LEONORA CARRINGTON-BOOK JUST OUT

If you are a Leonora Carrington fan and have been tantalized by the lack of a really substantial English-language book on her, your wait is over ! There is a new book by Susan Aberth just published-it's a hardback, the text looks good (I only received my copy today). . .and the reproductions, many of them in colour, are absolutely wonderful.

L.C. was born in 1917, was the lover of Max Ernst for a while in the late Thirties and wound up in Mexico c. 1942 where she was part of the vibrant art scene for decades, her closest friend and influence being the equallly wonderful artist Remedios Varo. Nowadays, L.C. lives in New York, is in her late Eighties, and is still creating.

I obtained my copy from Amazon.

Here's a link to the book: Leonora Carrington: Surrealism, Alchemy And Art, alas a cover image is not posted on Amazon yet.

And to give you a taste of her work, here's a link to another book: The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington

Re: LEONORA CARRINGTON-BOOK JUST OUT
I read Leonora Carrington's surrealist partial autobiography "Down Below" and some of her other writing in her book "House of Fear". I'm glad I read "Down Below" because it was interesting but I'd hesitate to recommend it to anyone who wasn't already a Carrington fan.

I recently read Janet Kaplan's biography of Remedios Varo called "Unexpected Journeys". The biography and art criticism didn't do much for me but the book was well worth studying for the pictures. Most of Varo's mature art is at the fairytale end of the surrealist spectrum.
