who knows the truth of sleeping beauty?
Hey ya'll, sorry to be a bug, but I really need some info here. I'm doing an essay for high school over when, where, and why mytholoical creatures came about. I'm searching for these (hopful) facts through fairy tales, religion, and folk tales...and I need a fairy tale. At the moment, I'm looking at the Sleeping Beauty one, but I can't piece things together if I don't know the TRUE story. Someone pleeeease help me? <cocky smile>

Not sure what you mean by the true story. You can read about the earliest known variants here, and look up the texts Heidi cites in a library.

Re: who knows the truth of sleeping beauty?
Well, the earliest extant version is "The Sun, the Moon, and Talia." You can find a translation of Giambattista Basile's original tale in Jack Zipes' collection The Great Fairytale Tradition. You might also be able to find earlier sources of inspiration in Graham Anderson's Fairy Tales in the Ancient World. Good luck!

Best,
Helen

Re: Thanx
Midori Snyder wrote a good article on the history of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, which you can find on-line here:
