Needs of few
Hey All:

I am looking for examples of fairy tale which discuss the potential dangers of putting the needs of the few over the needs of the many. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Sean

Re: Needs of few
In certain versions of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty's sisters selfishly want things for themselves even when their father's income flounders, causing poverty for the family, while Beauty selflessly contributes to the household.

In the Arabian Nights, the king selfishly kills bride after bride, to the detriment of his kingdom, in vengeance for the faithlessness of his first wife. It takes the selflessness and intelligence of Shahrazad, willing to risk her life, that puts an end to the slaughter.

Those are what come to mind at the moment. There are probably better examples around.

Best,
Alice
